Free netbooks are becoming as popular as free mobile phones, and it’s no wonder.

Most people I know haven’t bought a mobile phone in years, but their contract still gives them the very latest model mobile phone for free. And if you’re a regular mobile phone user, then it makes good sense.

The same thing applies with netbooks if like me you’re a big Mobile Broadband user and you love the best netbooks like the Samsung NC10.

It’s true to say that, apart from general browsing, free Wifi is a waste of time. It’s so insecure you could log on to your internet bank account in your local cafe and free Wifi spot, and all your money could be in a bank in Russia before you get home.

So regular users of internet on the move pay for a mobile broadband contract with one of the big 3G phone suppliers. These can either be PAYG or pay monthly, just like mobile phones. And just like with mobile phones, a pay monthly contract will often give you a great netbook for free.

The Samsung NC10 is still our favourite netbook, with its great display, near full size keyboard, massive hard drive and loads of grunt from the Intel Atom, and you can get one of these for free with a 24 month Vodaphone contract for just £25 a month.
